  • The mission of the Deemed University ,Indian Veterinary Research Institute is to undertake pioneering research in Veterinary and animal sciences with holistic approach, promote high quality education and training, develop systems and technologies for better animal health care and production and their dissemination to end users to function as an effective instrument for nutritional security, poverty alleviation and rural reconstruction.
  • To impart post graduate education to meritorious candidates in different disciplines of Veterinary and animal sciences including frontier areas such as biotechnology, immunology etc.
  • To formulate courses of current and future relevance to build a strong academic foundation for the scientific and technical manpower generated by the Deemed University.

  • The impact post-graduates education to meritorious candidates in different disciplines of veterinary and animal sciences including frontier areas such as biotechnology, immunology, etc.
  • To make veterinary and animal science post-graduate education responsive to the growing and changing needs of the society in general and aspiration of the livestock owners//farming community in particular.
  • To establish a dynamic system of veterinary and animal Science education to train highly skilled and competent manpower to address the challenging tasks with new emerging areas of research teaching, extension and industry.
  • To formulate course of current and future relevance to build a strong academic foundation for the scientific and technical manpower generated by the Deemed University.

  • To provide an education system that is contemporary and meets the changing needs the veterinary and animal sciences sector.
  • To make veterinary and animal sciences postgraduate education responsive to the needs of the livestock farming sector and widen the knowledge base by providing training in veterinary and animal sciences.
  • To start courses of current and future relevance keeping in view recent developments in different disciplines of veterinary and animal sciences.

Strategies

These goals and the objectives are accomplished by the following strategies envisaged by the university.

  • By providing students with required skills and expose them to new frontiers of knowledge to build professional competence, enhance self-confidence and instill managerial abilities in them.
  • By reorienting veterinary and animal science post-graduate education to meet the challenges of sustainable animal sciences sector.
  • By providing post-graduate programmes in biotechnology, biochemistry, immunology, the newer frontier areas.
  • By initiating new programme leading to doctorate degrees in livestock statistics.
  • By establishing separate Board of Studies for each discipline to effectively mange various programmes and to provide a forum to cater to the specific needs of the postgraduate students.
  • By revising curriculum and syllabus to incorporate emerging areas in different disciplines.
  • By achieving computer, networking, patent and trade literacy.
  • By strengthening the veterinary and animal service centres, Polyclinics, ATIC, KVK etc. for faster dissemination of technologies and to develop skilled manpower required by the sector.
  • By bulking strong academic centres of international reputation and attract foreign students in veterinary and animal sciences.

The Institute admits students to its post-graduate programme through rigorous screening procedure under five streams viz., open competition, foreign students, inservice candidates of agricultural universities under faculty upgradation scheme, departmental candidates of IVRI and ICAR inservice nominees. The Institute continued to be member of International Associations and Indian Agricultural Universities Association. Foreign students from Ethiopia, Iran, Nepal and Nigeria have been enrolled in the university. The Indian students admitted to the post-graduate programme are given financial assistance in the form of different scholarships such as IVRI, ICAR and CSIR Fellowships.
