Technologies Developed

  • An easy, fast and cost effective technique of PCR followed by simple agarose gel electrophoresis for genotyping yak at 3´UTR locus of Nramp1 gene which successfully replace the cumbersome SSCP-PAGE practiced in cattle and buffalo.
  • Genotyping at 3´UTR locus of Nramp1 gene of yak for identifying brucellosis resistant animals
  • RAPD based fingerprinting useful for species differentiation and phylogenetics of bovine species: yak, mithun, cattle and buffalo
  • AFLP marker associated with higher body weight
  • Evaluation of fertilizing capacity of yak bull fresh semen and Cryopreservation of yak semen (associated)

Awards

  • Recipient of prestigious ICAR award: Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Award, 2011 for Outstanding Research in Tribal Farming Systems.
  • Best poster award: Phylogeny of bovine species based on RAPD fingerprinting. International Conference on “Yak husbandry- Challenges and Strategies” (April, 20-22, 2009). Organized by NRC on Yak, ICAR, Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh, India.
