By 2047, the ICAR-IVRI Extension Education Programme envisions a transformative future for Indian livestock sector, driven by cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices. The integration of artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT) will revolutionize extension services, making them more efficient and accessible. Farmers will benefit from AI-powered decision support systems, IoT-based livestock monitoring and drone-assisted precision farming, ensuring optimal resource utilization and productivity. To bridge the digital divide, user-friendly mobile applications, voice-based interfaces, and interactive multimedia tools will be developed, catering to the diverse linguistic and regional needs of farmers. Simultaneously, the programme will prioritize sustainable animal farming by promoting climate-resilient livestock breeds, forage species and eco-friendly management practices, ensuring long-term environmental resilience and food security. Strengthening farmer-market linkages through value chain research, market intelligence systems, and innovative agribusiness models will further empower farmers to thrive in a competitive economy.
The programme will also focus on inclusivity, empowering marginalized groups such as smallholder farmers, women, youth and tribal communities. By identifying and promoting local innovations and practices, knowledge co-creation will be fostered, ensuring sustainable animal husbandry practices are widely adopted. Capacity-building initiatives will equip extension workers, veterinarians and livestock farmers with modern management skills, entrepreneurship and business development expertise. Innovative extension methods, including mobile apps, online platforms and participatory learning approaches, will ensure that even remote and marginalized communities are reached. The establishment of farmer participatory organizations, breed societies, livestock seed villages and value chains will further empower the farming community. Additionally, national and international collaborations will be leveraged to secure funding and promote inclusive growth, entrepreneurship, and startups in the livestock and allied sectors, paving the way for a prosperous and sustainable future by 2047.
