Germ Plasm Centre

• The Germ Plasm Centre (GPC) of the institute is engaged in the production of cattle and buffalo semen and its long-term storage and supply to different agencies, post-graduate teaching, research and training.
• Centre also contributes to revenue generation by supply of cattle and buffalo bull semen to various stakeholders.
• The centre is maintaining breeding bulls of Vrindavani, Tharparkar, Sahiwal cattle and Murrah buffalo for semen collection, processing and freezing.
• The centre has bull sheds with the capacity of maintaining twenty bulls.
• The centre holds an infrastructure and facilities for semen processing, freezing and storage.
• Sophisticated equipment available in the centre includes integrated semen straw filling-sealing and printing machine, fluorescence microscope, UV-spectrophotometer, laminar air flow cabinet, refrigerated ultra centrifuge, programmable freezer for semen freezing, phase contrast microscope with stage warmer, semen analyser, precision water bath, deep freeze (-20°C), ultrapure water purification system and sperm cell counter.
• The GPC premises are covered by six numbers of closed-circuit television cameras for monitoring purpose.
• The centre is structured with the entry gate, main building, bull shed number 1 and 2, semen quality control room, student classroom, washing and sterilization room, semen collection area, semen processing room, office room, washing room, labour room, sick animal shed, and a godown for storage of around 400 quintals of straw/animal feed.
• Main building is an air-conditioned facility with power back provision by Gen Set and online UPS unit connected to important equipment.
• The premises are lined with well-maintained lawn.
