Museum

  • The Museum is developed with the purpose of educating and inspiring students, scholars, veterinarians, academicians, farmers, children, and the common man for better understanding of animals, veterinary science, and livestock's role in food production.
  • The Museum provides knowledge and new information to pre-university and UG/PG students of SAUs/Veterinary Universities of different parts of the country who visit IVRI on educational tours.
  • The museum with a vintage look and spacious lush green lawn is located in approximately 100 years old residential heritage building GOB-I in IVRI Izatnagar campus.
  • The structure of the museum includes a left side gallery, back side small rooms, right side gallery, back rooms, front room, verandah, back yard, outside lawn display, and annex room.
  • The museum holds supporting units that include one In-Charge Chamber and one Reception-cum-Office.
  • The museum has gated entry besides an ambient parking space.
  • The museum is furnished with appropriate tools for holding the exhibits.
  • The important exhibits in the Museum include:
    • Veterinary history panels (ancient books and literature, posters and paintings, wall displays including animal horn trophies and veterinary history illustrated sun board panels).
    • Handicrafts and mementoes (bamboo handicrafts, brass/bronze/marble animal driven carts, toys, mementoes, outdoor exhibits, iron rod animal sculptures, animal models, Rahat, old bricks, iron made year plates, terracotta animal models and Harappan exhibits).
    • National and international coins and postage stamps, currency notes and cheques, photo frames depicting animals and birds, animals and their harnesses/accessories.
    • Biological specimens (fishes, farm animals, wildlife foetuses/neonates, skeletons, calculi and veterinary relevant parasites, insects and snails).
    • Equipment and instruments (agricultural equipment, animal reproduction and surgical instruments, medical instruments, microscopes including transmission electron microscope, scientific and laboratory instruments, scientific projectors and slide viewers).
    • Laboratory glassware (tissue culture, analytical and rare and common laboratory glassware, thermometers, syringes etc.).
