Considering the pivotal role of the dairy sector in ensuring nutritional security, value addition, rural livelihood generation, entrepreneurship development, and economic growth, the Government of India has accorded high priority to dairy and food processing industries under national initiatives such as Make in India, Skill India, and Startup India. In view of the increasing demand for professionally trained manpower in dairy processing, dairy engineering, quality assurance, product development, and dairy business management, ICAR–Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) has taken a significant step by initiating the undergraduate programme Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) in Dairy Technology from the academic session 2025–26. The programme has been designed to impart comprehensive knowledge and hands-on training in milk processing, dairy product technology, quality and safety assurance, dairy engineering, packaging, value addition, and entrepreneurship development, thereby preparing graduates to meet the evolving needs of the dairy industry, research organizations, and allied sectors.

With a strong focus on practical learning, cutting-edge research, and industry readiness, the department stands as a hub for quality education and technological advancement. Our department houses state-of-the-art laboratories designed to support both academic learning and high-end research.

The department maintains strong linkages with leading Dairy industries, food industries, research organizations, and regulatory bodies. Graduates of the B.Tech. Dairy Technology programme may explore career opportunities in dairy manufacturing and processing industries, quality control and quality assurance laboratories, research and development organizations, food safety and regulatory agencies, dairy equipment and packaging industries, cold chain management, logistics and supply chain sectors, as well as entrepreneurship and start-up ventures in the dairy and food processing domain. The programme also provides a strong foundation for pursuing higher education, research, and professional careers in allied sectors.

Admission Capacity : 15

Admission Procedure : Admission of students to B.Tech. Dairy Technology degree course is made through ICAR Counselling (www.icaradmission.in) on the basis of his or her merit obtained in Common University Entrance Test (CUET) Examination for the year in which admissions is sought.

Duration: Four years (8 semesters) programme

Duration of Course: The duration of the B.Tech. Dairy Technology degree course is spread over four years including compulsory Student READY Programme of one year duration.

Eligibility :

• Candidates should have a minimum qualification of 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics & English from a recognized Board.
• 50% minimum marks in aggregate (40% marks in aggregate for SC/ST, BC categories) excluding optional subjects
