About KVK

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has established Krishi Vigyan Kendra - Bareilly in 1985 under the aegis of ICAR-Indian Veterinary Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly (U.P.), a Deemed University. ICAR-Indian Veterinary Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly is a 130 years old pioneer research institute in the field of livestock production and veterinary sciences, which has 6 sub-stations such as Palampur, Mukteshwar, Kolkata, Banglore, Pune and Shrinagar with the headquarter in Bareilly district. Izatnagar campus comprises of more than 700 acres of campus area, 28 divisions/departments and 300 scientists in the form of resource persons, the best in their fields, covering all the spheres of animal health and production system. In addition to this, it is in the centre of Bareilly district, within Institute’s campus and another pioneer sister institute of ICAR i.e. ICAR-Central Avian Research Institute (CARI) is also located in the same campus. Bareilly also has a centre of SVPUA & T, Meerut where one horticulture and one agronomy scientists are available for support. KVK, Bareilly, having a vast experience of the working in the district has been awarded twice i.e. in 2010 and 2018, with the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Zonal Krishi Vigyan Kendra award for Zone -III. Bareilly district is well connected with rail and road link with major parts of Uttar Pradesh and as well the country. KVK, being situated in the centre of the district, is easily accessible for the farmers of all the blocks of the district.

KVK places a special emphasis on training and education of farmers, entrepreneurs, farm women, rural youth, financial institutions extension functionaries as well as voluntary organizations. The centre plays a First Line Extension role-A linkage between research and the field in augmenting the socio-economic conditions of farmers, farmwomen and livestock owners. KVK has been considered as an innovative and different than other training intuitions/organizations for its need based and skill oriented training programs with approach of ‘learning by doing’ and ‘teaching by doing. Assessment of training needs and gaps between the available technology and its application in the field is the prerequisite. For this, farm families’ surveys are conducted time to time for deriving the needs of farmers, farm women, farm youth and livestock owners at village level. KVK, Bareilly is also using social media plateform i.e. Whats App, Facebook, U-tube channel, Twitter etc. for increasing it’s reach and dissemination of technologies. At present KVK, Bareilly besides it’s mandated activities is also running a Agri-clinic and Agri-business Centre, Agriculture Skill Council of India training centre, In-situ Crop Residue Management Programme and Diploma course for Input Dealers.
